Sycamore Gap, Hadrian’s Wall

I took this photograph of the Sycamore Gap tree long before it was cut down in 2023. It was a place I absolutely loved photographing, and I still find it incredibly sad that the tree is no longer there.

I love the simplicity of this view – the tree sitting perfectly in the gap, surrounded by all that green, with a huge Northumberland sky above it. I photographed it many times over the years, but this is one of my favourite views of it.

I don’t think I’ll ever go back. For me, I’d rather remember Sycamore Gap as it was.
