“Rainy Day Curiosity” was taken during a very wet and windy morning in southwest Scotland.

I’d spent hours sitting in the rain watching a fox den and, to be honest, I wasn’t sure I was going to get anything worthwhile. Then this little fox cub appeared for a few moments between the showers and stopped just long enough for me to take this photograph.

I love the way the rain has softened the background while the cub’s eyes remain the main focus of the image. It’s a moment that sums up wildlife photography for me – lots of patience, plenty of bad weather and, every now and again, a photograph that makes it all worthwhile.
