Blencathra, Lake District
Blencathra has to be one of the most recognisable mountains in the Lake District, and in late summer it becomes even more spectacular as the lower slopes turn purple with flowering heather – I’d never seen it so bright before!
I photographed this panoramic view beneath a wonderfully dramatic sky, with patches of light picking out the heather-covered ridges against the darker mountain behind. It’s one of those scenes where the Lake District weather really adds to the photograph rather than spoiling it.
The wide panoramic format gives Blencathra room to stretch right across the canvas, making this particularly suited to a large wall, above a sofa, bed or anywhere that needs a strong landscape piece.
