Wherever you are on your photography journey, I’ll tailor the day around you.

I’ve been photographing Yorkshire for over 15 years and still get excited every time the light is good. Whether it’s the first rays of sunshine hitting a dry stone wall, mist rolling through the Dales or a dramatic sky after a storm, I love sharing those moments with other photographers.

Every workshop is completely bespoke. Before we meet, I’ll send you a short questionnaire or we can chat through on the phone so I can understand your experience, what you’d like to learn and the sort of photographs you’d love to come home with. I’ll then plan a day that’s designed specifically for you.

No two workshops are ever the same.

Whether you’re a complete beginner or a keen photographer looking to improve, I’ll make sure you leave with more confidence than when you arrived.

What we’ll cover

Because every workshop is tailored to you, we’ll spend time on the things that matter most to your photography.

We can cover topics such as:

• Understanding your camera without the confusing jargon.
• Manual, Aperture Priority and Shutter Priority modes.
• Exposure and getting consistently sharp images.
• Reading the light and making the most of different weather conditions.
• Composition – learning the “rules” and when it’s better to ignore them.
• Using filters creatively.
• Long exposure photography.
• Landscape photography techniques.
• Getting the very best from the equipment you already own.

If your camera feels like it’s speaking another language, don’t worry. By the end of the day, those buttons, dials and settings will make a lot more sense, and you’ll understand not just what to change, but why.

Discover Yorkshire’s hidden gems

We’ll explore some of my favourite locations across the Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire.

Some are iconic beauty spots, while others are places I’ve discovered over many years that most visitors simply drive straight past.

The locations we visit will depend on the weather, the season and, most importantly, the type of photography you’d like to do.

Relaxed, friendly and fun

I only teach individuals or private groups of up to four people, so there’s never any pressure to keep up with a large group.

My workshops are relaxed, friendly and full of laughter. Ask as many questions as you like—there are no silly questions.

Photography should be enjoyable, and I want you to finish the day feeling inspired, confident and excited to get out with your camera again.

Equipment

You’re welcome to bring your own camera, lenses and tripod.

If you’re visiting Yorkshire or don’t have your own equipment, don’t worry.

Professional Canon cameras, lenses, tripods and filters are available to hire, so you’ll have everything you need for the day.

Lunch is on me

A packed lunch, tea, coffee and bottled water are all included.

Before your workshop, I’ll send you a menu so you can choose your lunch and let me know about any dietary requirements.

After your workshop

You’ll go home with detailed notes covering everything we’ve learnt during the day, making it easy to refresh your memory when you’re back out with your camera.

What you’ll need

• Suitable outdoor clothing.
• Walking boots or sturdy shoes.
• A waterproof coat (this is Yorkshire after all!).
• Your own camera equipment if you’re bringing it.
• A sense of humour!

Most workshops involve walking short distances over uneven ground, usually no more than half a mile at a time. We’ll chat beforehand about your mobility so I can plan a day that’s suitable for you.

Yes… there may occasionally be a wild wee, although public toilets usually make an appearance too!
