Paula Beaumont Adventures: A Week in Scotland as a Wildlife Photographer

Hello everyone! I’m Paula Beaumont, a passionate wildlife photographer who loves to capture the stunning beauty of nature. Recently, I embarked on an exciting week-long adventure in Scotland to photograph some incredible wildlife. From foxes and badgers to kingfishers, adders, sparrowhawks, and woodpeckers, this trip was filled with unforgettable moments. Let me take you through my week and share the experiences that brought these amazing images to life.

Day 1: Photographing Foxes in the Night

My adventure began with an exciting night-time session to photograph foxes. Equipped with my camera and flash, I set up early evening so not to disturb the foxes den. It took hours of patience, sitting quietly in the dark, (with the midges!) but it was worth it when I finally captured images of a male fox hunting for food. The flash highlighted their striking features and made the photos truly stand out.

Day 2: Photographing Badgers After Dark

Next up were badgers, also photographed at night using a flash. Again, setting up early so I didn’t disturb them near their sett, I waited patiently, surrounded by the quiet sounds of the night. Capturing these shy creatures as they went about their nocturnal activities was a challenge, but the resulting photos were fantastic. The flash beautifully illuminated their distinctive black-and-white markings. It was amazing to see them reflected in the woodland pond!

Day 3: Photographing Kingfishers by the River

Day three took me to a serene riverbank to photograph the vibrant kingfishers. I spent hours quietly waiting by the water, camera at the ready. Capturing a kingfisher in action, especially as it dives for fish, requires a lot of patience. After a long wait, I was rewarded with incredible shots of these stunning birds.

Day 4: Adders in the Underbrush

Photographing adders involves a careful and slow approach. I spent an entire day moving through the underbrush, watching and waiting. Patience paid off when I finally got close enough to capture detailed images of these fascinating snakes in their natural habitat.

Day 5: Sparrowhawks

Sparrowhawks are fast and elusive, making them a challenging subject. I spent hours in a hide, waiting for the perfect moment. The photos show these agile hunters in all their glory.

Day 6: Woodpeckers, red squirrels and Woodland Birds

Day 6 was dedicated to photographing various woodland birds, including the elusive woodpeckers. I sat quietly for hours, surrounded by the sounds of the forest. The patience paid off as I captured images of woodpeckers and other birds in their natural environment.

Day 7: Ospreys

I also have to admit defeat occasionally! Day 7 on the wettest morning for a long time I got up at 4am to travel to a small hide in the Trossachs to capture the Ospreys. I was so excited about this having never seen one! Well I waited and waited and waited…. The rain was incessant, it was dark, grey and cold… I waited for 6 hours and didn’t get to see an osprey… nature huh? BUT I did get to meet another wildlife photographer called Ashley who was smashing and a lovely lady called Susan and I did get to photograph a large male grey heron shaking out his feathers after catching a fish so it wasn’t a total loss…

Turning Photos into Fabulous Prints and Products

After returning from my trip, the real fun begins – transforming these images into beautiful prints, cards, and products like mugs and coasters. Each photograph is carefully edited and printed to ensure it captures the essence of the moment. My wildlife photography isn’t just about taking pictures; it’s about sharing the beauty of nature through high-quality, hand-printed items.

Whether it’s a fox mug, a badger coaster, or a kingfisher print, my goal is to bring a piece of the wild into your home. Each product is a testament to the patience and dedication that goes into capturing these stunning images.
