The lake District and Gatescarth Pass adventure!
20th July 2018
The first weekend in July was the weekend for our annual lakes visit! My pals and I had been planning for a while and when I found out the dates I managed to scoop three permits to drive over Gatescarth pass in the Lakes! This iconic green lane is controlled by the Lakes District National Park and to look after it’s surface and ensure not to many users are on the pass at any one time they release 12 passes per month, 1 day per month, 8 months a year. It works great! And with the help of GLASS who monitor the lane and check passes this fabulous lane stays open for everyone to enjoy.
Staying at Baysbrown campsite in Great Langdale, Ambelside – great campsite – huge! Massive!! It was super busy but because its so big and each camp area is split up with long grass and wild areas it didn’t actually seem busy! Awesome views to wake up to! But a ten minute walk to the loo is a LONG way lol – We met the rest of the gang there that evening and quite a few other laners and travelers I’v know for a while on the net but not met so that was great! Saturday morning we had an awesome time driving up Parkamor to get an amazing view of lake Conniston below. We waited at the top for the second group and all had lunch up there together
The drive back down is just as tricky – a nice slow decent down the rocks, taking in the views!
Next down into Grizdale forest – I love this lane. It’s long, a little rocky and very pretty! The first picture below is Donkey – Nortons lesser cousin heheheh
So our day was cut a little short from here… England were playing in the world cup quarter finals and who was I to stand in the way of boys and their football!! It was quite good fun actually – the pub was heaving, great atmosphere!! Oh and they won so that helped hahahahaha
Sunday morning we headed out again from the campsite into the sunshine and drove down to Tilberthwaite. I love this lane! The scenery is so stunning!

Last lane of the weekend and where we met the other group for lunch and goodbyes was Breasthigh – another iconic Lakes lane – so pretty and a little tricky in places – well not for me and Norton of course but some of them struggled hehehehe
Thanks for another awesome adventure guys!
